Celebrating Leadership: Farmington Public Safety Promotions Announced
The Farmington Public Safety Department celebrated two promotions at the June 16 City Council Meeting. Sergeant Jimmy Wren was promoted to Commander, and Public Safety Officer Ryan Baessler was promoted to Sergeant. Well-deserved recognition.
“Tonight, we celebrate the accomplishments of Jimmy Wren and Ryan Baessler as they have chosen to embark on a path of supervision and executive leadership,” said Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin. “They have made a commitment to greatness both in self and sacrifice, and they have earned the opportunity to be called commander and sergeant.”
Commander Wren joined the Farmington Public Safety Department in 2011. He is a field training officer, firearms instructor and fire instructor. He has served as an officer, detective, fire marshal, and sergeant. As a detective, Commander Wren was our first representative on the Oakland County Narcotics Team, where he honed his skills as an investigator. He currently represents the department as a member of the Oakland County All Hazard Incident Management Team and is instrumental in coordinating our large events downtown.
Over the last 13 years, Commander Wren has earned nine letters of appreciation, two longevity awards, two safe driving, one lifesaving award, 15 citations, and has been officer of the year twice.
Sergeant Baessler joined the Farmington Public Safety Department in 2018, and “has been an outstanding public safety officer.” He currently serves as a field training officer helping teach “The Farmington Way”.
According to Director Houhanisin, Sergeant Baessler has spent the last few years preparing himself for this new role. Since joining the department, he has earned one letter of appreciation, six citations, three lifesaving awards, and one Distinguished Service Award. Ryan has proven himself ready for this new challenge.
“On behalf of the members of the Farmington Public Safety Department, I would like to thank the City Council, Mayor LaRussa and City Manager Murphy for their support and dedication to this department. We couldn’t do this without you. And to Commander Wren, and Sergeant Baessler, congratulations on your promotions and we wish you nothing but happiness and success in your new roles,” concluded Chief Houhanisin.
