Freedom Gateway Center donates $10,000 to Farmington Public Safety for new drone

Freedom Gateway Center Co-Pastors Randy and Deborah O’Dell surprised Farmington City Council when Deborah spoke at public comment during the Monday, Sept. 15, 2025 City Council meeting and presented a $10,000 donation. She explained that the donation was for Farmington Public Safety to purchase a drone.

This generous contribution is the result of a unique "reverse offering" program created and championed by Pastor Deborah O’Dell. Instead of collecting donations, church members were given the opportunity to take money from the church with the intention of multiplying it through creative ventures. The initiative, inspired by the biblical parable of the talents, encouraged members to create products such as baked goods, homemade bath products, and dog biscuits, as well as offer services like car washes.

The successful program raised a total of $10,000, which Freedom Church – part of Freedom Gateway Center - chose to donate to the city's public safety department.

“We are grateful for the church’s remarkable kindness and for being a valued partner in making our city a safer place to live," said Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin.

The new drone will significantly enhance the department's capabilities, improving its ability to respond to emergencies, conduct search and rescue operations, and ensure the safety of Farmington residents.

"This gift is particularly meaningful knowing it's the result of your unique program," said Director Houhanisin. "It's a true testament to the faith, generosity, and strong community spirit of the Freedom Gateway Center. Your commitment to helping others and your creative approach to giving are an inspiration to us all."

Pastors Randy and Deborah O’Dell co-lead Freedom Gateway Center and Freedom Church, and also serve together as chaplains for Farmington Public Safety. Freedom Gateway Center is located at 31590 Grand River Ave in Farmington.
