The Farmington Public Safety Department is proud to announce that Commander Todd Anderson has been named the American Legion Officer of the Year. Farmington Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin announced the honor at the community’s annual Patriots Day Celebration, Sept. 11, 2024.

Commander Anderson’s exceptional leadership, dedication and service during a year of significant change within the department have earned him this prestigious honor. Throughout 2023, the Farmington Public Safety Department underwent numerous transitions, and Commander Anderson was integral to ensuring a smooth and effective response to these changes.

“Commander Anderson’s commitment to the department’s mission is further reflected in his willingness to cover shifts, often filling in on the road when staffing gaps occur,” explained Director Houhanisin. “He has served as a field training officer, firearms instructor, taser instructor, evidence technician, and assisted with the development of new officers and supervisors.”

Todd joined the department in June of 2001 and since then he has received 11 letter of appreciation, 1 Safe Driving Award, 14 Unit Citations, 1 Professional Excellence Award, 7 Citations, 8 Lifesaving Awards and 1 Distinguished Serve Award. 

“Commander Anderson’s contributions over the years have not only helped the department navigate challenges but have also ensured that the highest standards of public safety are maintained in Farmington. The American Legion Officer of the Year award is a testament to his commitment to excellence in law enforcement and to his unwavering service to the community,” concluded Director Houhanisin. “Thank you, Commander Anderson.”
