The City of Farmington is celebrating Officer Alan Baranski and his 25 years of dedicated service to the Farmington Public Safety Department and the community. Baranski, who was sworn in on October 1, 2001, is now beginning a well-earned retirement after a career marked by service, compassion, humor and a genuine connection with the people he served.

Over the course of his career, he served as a patrol officer, detective and School Resource Officer. His ability to connect with young people made his time in the schools especially meaningful, where he helped students navigate difficult situations and worked to de-escalate challenging circumstances.

His service to the community extended far beyond his official assignments. Throughout his career, Baranski received numerous letters of appreciation from not only from residents, but also from students. Baranski’s career accomplishments include two safe driving awards, 13 unit citations, three citations, six lifesaving awards, and being named Farmington Public Safety Officer of the Year in 2006.

“Over an entire career, we sometimes forget the impact we have had on other people,” said Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin. “Alan’s career is filled with examples of kindness, compassion and service. He has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless residents, and his presence will certainly be missed.”

Those who worked alongside Baranski also know him for his friendly, lighthearted personality and his ability to bring humor to the workplace.

“Al has always been someone who made people feel welcome,” said City Manager David Murphy. “His dedication to the City of Farmington, his fellow employees and the residents he served is something we are grateful for. We congratulate Al on his retirement and thank him for more than 25 years of service.”
