Shane Wash promoted to Deputy Director of Farmington Public Safety

Farmington Public Safety is pleased to announce the promotion of Commander Shane Wash to Deputy Director. With nearly three decades of law enforcement experience and more than 20 years of service to Farmington, Wash brings extensive leadership, training and community experience to his new role.

Wash joined the City of Farmington Public Safety Department in December 2005. During his career with Farmington, he has served as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Sergeant and Commander, gaining experience across every level of the department.

“Shane is the kind of leader who makes the people around him better,” said Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin. “He has an exceptional combination of experience, intelligence, compassion and dedication. Throughout his career, Shane has consistently stepped up to serve, mentor and lead. I have tremendous confidence in his ability to help guide our department and continue moving us forward.”

Wash has also played an important role in developing future law enforcement professionals. He is a dedicated Department Trainer and previously served as a Field Training Officer, helping shape and mentor the next generation of officers. He also serves as a professor at Schoolcraft College, where he teaches Criminal Justice, Fire Technology and Homeland Security. Additionally, he is the lead Emergency Vehicle Operations instructor for the Wayne County Regional Police Academy.

Wash has also pursued extensive academic and professional development. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s degree from Webster University. Most recently, he completed the prestigious Police School of Staff and Command at Northwestern University, further strengthening his executive leadership skills.
